4 parts · 40 questions · about 30 minutes

Listening

Four recordings, from an everyday conversation to an academic lecture. The audio plays once, just like the real test, and you answer while you listen, with two minutes at the end to check your answers.

  • Form, note and table completion
  • Multiple choice and matching
  • Time to read the questions before each part
  • Answers marked automatically, band straight away

3 passages · 40 questions · 60 minutes

Reading

Three long academic passages with the question types you will meet in the exam. The passage and questions sit side by side, and you can highlight text as you read.

  • True / False / Not Given and Yes / No / Not Given
  • Matching headings, information and endings
  • Sentence, summary and note completion
  • Every answer explained in your report

2 tasks · 60 minutes

Writing

Task 1 asks you to describe a chart or diagram in at least 150 words; Task 2 is an essay of at least 250 words. A live word count helps you pace yourself, with no spell checker, as in the computer-delivered test.

  • Marked on the four official criteria
  • A band for each task and for Writing overall
  • Corrections of your own sentences
  • Clear advice on what to improve

3 parts · 11–14 minutes

Speaking

An examiner asks you the questions out loud: an interview, a two-minute talk on a topic card after one minute to prepare, and a discussion. You can ask for a question to be repeated once.

  • Fluency measured while you speak
  • Marked on the four official criteria
  • Corrections of what you said
  • Your answers are transcribed; recordings are deleted after marking

How a mock works

Exam conditions, at your own pace.

Start when you are ready

Read the exam tips first; your 12-hour window starts after them, or when you open your first test.

Any order

Take the four parts in any order within the 12 hours. We recommend one sitting, like the real exam.

Real timing

Each test has its own timer that cannot be paused, and your answers save automatically as you work.

Results in 2 hours

Within two hours of your last part, after an instructor has reviewed the marking, you get your band scores, a full report and feedback for every skill.

Your detailed report

A detailed report of your exam, after every mock.

You don’t just get a score. Every mock comes with a full written report on your performance, checked twice and reviewed by one of our instructors, who adds personal comments for you.

Band scores

A band for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, an overall band and a score summary for the whole mock.

Error correction

Writing Task 1 and Task 2 corrected sentence by sentence: what you wrote, the corrected sentence and why.

Lexical resource

Vocabulary to practise for your topics, with an example for every word or phrase, so you can use it in your next answer.

Grammatical range and accuracy

The grammar mistakes you made most often and the sentence structures that will raise your score.

Fluency and coherence

How smoothly you spoke and organised your ideas, measured live while you answered the Speaking questions.

Pronunciation

How clear and easy to follow your speech was, with advice on what to practise.

Your path to the next band

Clear steps for each skill, what to avoid, and every Listening and Reading question you missed, with the correct answer.

IELTS Bites activities

Short practice activities of 5 to 15 minutes that target your weakest areas, so you know what to do after the mock.
